AB 104 - Pass/No Pass Grade Option
During the 2020/2021 school, the State of California's K-12 and higher education communities collaborated on ways to assist students with overcoming the challenges faced during the pandemic and the effects of remote learning while assisting students with university admissions and placement challenges. Governor Newsome signed Assembly Bill 104 and it became law on July 1, 2021.
Parents/guardians of students under 18 may request to change a letter grade of Pass or No Pass for courses taken by a student enrolled in grades 8-12 during the 2020/2021 school year. You must submit the grade change request by September 8, 2021. Encore cannot accept grade changes requests submitted after this date.
The following is an updated summary of your options to update students grade changes:
1. Parents/guardians of students under 18 years old, and 18-year-old or older students who were enrolled in grades 8-12 during the 2020/2021 school year, may request to have their grade on the student's transcript changed to Pass or No Pass for courses taken during the 2020/2021 school year.
2. Grades of Pass or No Pass will not negatively impact student GPA's.
3. There is no limit on the number of types of courses that are eligible for a change from a letter grade to a pass grade of Pass or No Pass.
4. All requests submitted by the September 8, 2021 date will be accepted.

Effects of Grade Changes on Postsecondary Education
For admissions purposes, the California State University cannot penalize students with
transcripts that have grades of Pass or No Pass grades. Other postsecondary educational institutions that have agreed to accept transcripts with a Pass or No Pass grade for admissions purposes are listed at: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/ps/ab104surveyresults.asp
Some colleges and universities, including those in other states, may refuse to accept a Pass or No Pass grade for admissions purposes. Please check with any postsecondary educational institution that you or your child is interested in applying to about the impact of a Pass or No Pass grade before requesting a grade change
