CREATIVE ACADEMICSOCTOBER 2020
Encore has adapted to the societal norms by adapting our recurring creative academic eventsto be virtually accessible. Student engagement has been a challenge as we are combating“zoom-fatigue” and various other stressors. The Creative Director of academics has workedcollaboratively with counselors and teachers to encourage student participation by offeringin-class incentives and support. Despite narrowing participation, Encore continues to offercreative academic events as studies show such events may boost confidence, build knowledge, and enhance cognitive abilities.
NATIONAL HISTORY DAY (NHD)With the support of Encore social science teachers, students are currently engaging in ayear-long academic program focused on historical research, interpretation, and creativeexpression for 6th- to 12th-grade students. By participating in
NHD, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights, and artists as they create unique contemporaryexpressions of history.
