On June 8, 2020 - the California Department of Education released a 62 page guidebook, "Stronger Together - A Guidebook for the Safe Reopening of California's Public Schools." After Encore's successful implementation of distance learning in March, many stakeholders are looking forward to what the fall will bring for everyone.
In March when the pandemic hit California, Encore proactively decided to move the fall start date to September 14. While the summer and calendar will decide whether this was the right move, it allows calendar and time to happen so the world can work through some important pieces of COVID-19. The Guidebook issued a checklist for physically reopening campuses for students.
Local conditions have to allow for flexibiilty or lifting of the stay home order. Within this bullet point, equipment, sanitation supplies, availability of local testing and capacities in the area have to be met before a school can open.
School have to establish a plan to address positive COVID-19 cases and community surges. This includes a plan on what to do if the school has to close again for COVID-19 and following CDPH Guidance is people from the school have been exposed.
Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Schools have to update their current plans to include the unique circumstances that came forward during this crisis.
Campus Access. Limit access to nonessential visitors, volunteers, and outside third party use of facilities. Provide protocols and standards for anyone that enters the campus including handwashing and temperature screenings.
Hygiene. Schooles have to establish and train proper handwashing techniques.
Protective Equipment. Face covering guidelines, gloves, and santitation crew protective equipment.
Physical Distancing. Schools will have to limit accessibility so people can stay 6 feet apart at all times. In instances where students cannot stay 6 feet apart, they will need face covering when physical distancing is not feasible.
Cleaning and Disinfecting. Following CDC guidance, schools must meet high cleanliness standards.
Employee Issues. Extensive training and review facility needs.
Encore is committed to sharing developments with stakeholders as new information is released. Encore's plans will grow from these guidelines.
