It is such a misconception that teachers "have the summer off." While they may not be waking up early and getting dressed to go into the classroom, teachers are a rare breed of individual that is always pursuing the perfection of their class so they can share their passion for what they love with their students.
Teachers are amazing. They wear so many hats at the same time and they learn how to juggle personalities of all of their students while communicating with their administrators and their student parents and trying to crack the code of how to create an interest for the kids in their class so they can become lifelong learners. That is a very tough code to crack, especially when the kids in your classroom all have different motivations.
So what do teachers in the summer? In a regular summer, teachers are revising their lesson plans to update what "worked" and what "didn't work." They are researching how to make their classes more exciting and seeing if someone else built a better mousetrap in the classroom. They are planning how they are going to decorate their otherwise mundane classroom so kids will be excited to be in their class and they are analyzing what they could better to be the best teacher they can be. While yes, they are not going into school every day, they are still working all summer.
During this extended time away from school due to Covid, Encore's teachers are working on innovating their curriculum so in the event of mandated school closures, the curriculum will still be able to speak to the students and the teachers will still be able to teach with their personalized tools to support and educate their kids.
What Does That Mean?
Encore has amazing teachers that are creative and passionate about their expertise. This summer, Encore is starting the transition from the online curriculum "Cyber High" (Encore has been using this curriculum for about four years now) to a brand new online platform. The new platform is more exciting than Encore's current curriculum and the experts in their fields will be able to compile references from multiple locations for their online platform. As Encore's teachers develop this new and improved curriculum, the students are the ones that are going to reap the rewards. The teachers get to put their creativity into their tailored curriculum (using state standards and state approved textbooks as the base) to make the best tools for their classroom. Encore is so excited to reveal the classes that are being updated this summer when school resumes in September.
Teachers work hard. They do what they do because they love their subject matter and they want to help young people love their subject matter too. Their job is hard. While a lot of people get how hard their job is, the one hater in the group can devastate a teacher that has poured their heart and soul into their classes. People need to respect teachers. Encore and I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the wonderful teachers out there that are working through this crazy summer and through the flexibility restraints that are ongoing from Covid-19. We appreciate you.
